Wonderful Autumn

The leaves are falling, the air is brisk and the fall apples are ripening. Sounds wonderful to me!

Currently at Garside's Fruit Farm we have a good selection of apples available.

- Bramley Apples: Crisp, tart, hard large apple. The absolute best apple to bake with. This apple will also store well as long as kept in a cool, dry location.
- Prima Apples: Semi-sweet, crisp beautiful red apple. A great eating apple and perfect for making applesauce and other baking.
- Boskoop Apples: Crisp, semi-sweet rough skin apple. Great for eating or baking. This apple stores very well. If kept in a cool dry location in a cardboard or wooden box, will keep well into the New Year, and will even become sweeter tasting.
- King Apples: A crisp semi-sweet apple, delicious for eating or baking with.

The apples are available for $1.25/lb, except the Primas that are only $1.00/lb.

Coming soon: Spartan Apples, Jonagold Apples, Gloster Apples and Northern Spy Apples. We will also take orders for our Anjou Pears.

Also available right now are our Free Range Roating Chickens. These are available for $3.50/lb. These delicious chickens are raised with access to outside pasture, fed an exceptional quality locally produced grain, and were given no hormones or antibiotics.

If you would like to place an order for any of our products listed, please do not hesitate to contact us via phone at 604.556.4273 or email us at garsidesfruitfarm@shaw.ca anytime. We will be glad to put your order together for you.

Apples Apples Apples!!

Finally autumn has arrived, and that means the apple harvest is upon us!

Right now we have Bramley and Prima Apples available.

The Bramley Apple is rated the #1 Baking Apple in the world. It is a hard, tart apple, perfect for pies. These apples are available for $1.25 per pound. Get your order in fast!

We also have the Prima Apple available, these apples are a semi-sweet, crisp apple, great for eating or cooking with. They make a delicious apple sauce. The Prima Apples are available for $1.00 per pound.

We are already sold out of our Bartlett Pears, Gravenstein Apples and our Crab Apples.

Sadly we will not be offering U-Pick Hazelnuts this year, with the wet spring, our hazelnut crop was quite poor, and what did grow, was eaten by squirrels.

Also available now is our wildly popular Free-Range Roasting Chickens. These delicious chickens were fed a top quality locally produced grain, allowed access to outside pasture, were professionally processed and flash frozen. I can guarantee you this is the best chicken you will ever eat! The Garside's Fruit Farm Free-Range Roasting Chickens are available for $3.50 per pound. Average size 6 to 7 pounds this batch.

Garside Fruit Farm Beer Can Chicken

Here are instructions of how to make cook your own Beer Can Chicken.

We have used a eight pound Garside's Fruit Farm Free Range Chicken, one can of beer, our own Garside's Fruit Farm Apple Wood for the smoker.

Then place the chicken over the beer can in the stand. I then put a rub on the chicken. The rub is just a mixture of different spices that I chose. I mix all the spices together in a bowl and after rubbing a bit of olive oil over the chicken I gently rub the spices into the chicken.

I then place the chicken on a preheated BBQ with the apple wood in the pre-soaked smoker box. Water was added to the bottom of the pan the chicken sits in to keep the chicken moist. Often beer boils over and adds to the water.

The baking time is similar to baking in the oven, perhaps a little faster. I keep the BBQ between 400 to 425 degrees, and cook 15 mins per pound. Until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165F.

Finally we have a delicious moist chicken dinner. This is a relatively easy way to prepare a roast chicken with little clean up required, and especially great for the summer as you do not have to turn on your oven!

If you have any questions on our chickens or how to make a Beer Can Chicken please do not hesitate to contact us. If you would like to order any of our delicious Garside's Fruit Farm Free Range Chickens they are available now, for $3.50 per pound. Average size is around eight pounds, with some larger and a few smaller available.

You can contact us via email at garsidesfruitfarm@shaw.ca or via phone at 604.556.4273.
